Canal Stenosis
SPINE SURGERY
What is canal stenosis?
Canal stenosis is a degenerative pathology of the spine that consists of a progressive narrowing of the spinal canal, which leads to spinal or radicular neurological compromise. The involvement can occur at the cervical, dorsal or lumbar level.
Common symptoms
The symptom will depend on the level of involvement.
- The most frequent, lumbar canal stenosis, is characterized by a picture of bilateral lumbosciatica and neurogenic claudication.

Diagnosis
The diagnosis is fundamentally clinical, supported by an imaging study, with magnetic resonance imaging being the test of choice.
The treatment of canal stenosis is usually surgical. In our practice we opt for minimally invasive surgical techniques, which offer the least aggression to the patient and a quick recovery. The technique of choice for canal stenosis is microsurgical decompressive laminectomy.
